Troubleshooting
Fixes for permissions, recording, Zumi, exports and licences.
Permissions
The screen is black, or ZumCast says “Screen access needed”
Open Settings › Permissions and press Allow… next to Screen Recording. Turn ZumCast on in System Settings, then press Relaunch ZumCast. macOS only applies this permission after a restart of the app.
Zooms don’t know what I clicked, or guide steps have no names
Allow Accessibility in Settings › Permissions, then press Re-check.
Recording
My iPhone doesn’t show up
Use a cable, unlock the iPhone and tap Trust. Wait a few seconds; it appears as a source in the HUD.
There’s no sound
Check the microphone switch in the HUD and press Test mic. For sounds from apps, turn on System audio. Make sure Microphone is allowed in Settings › Permissions.
“Not enough free disk space to record”
ZumCast needs at least 2 GB free to start. Free up space, or move your projects folder to a bigger drive in Settings › General.
The app quit during a recording
Open ZumCast again. It recovers interrupted takes and tells you how many it found.
Zumi
“You’ve used today’s 3 free Zumi plans”
Basic includes 3 plans a day; they come back at midnight. Pro has unlimited plans.
Zumi doesn’t understand my request
On Macs without Apple’s on-device model, Zumi uses built-in rules. Try a shorter request, like the examples, or one of the chips in Zumi’s panel.
Exports
My export is only half the video and has a mark
That’s the Basic limit. Pro exports the full video with no mark. See Free export limits.
The video doesn’t play in another app
Choose H.264 instead of HEVC in the Export window. It plays everywhere.
Licence
See If activation fails. To move Pro to a new Mac, deactivate the old one first.
Report a problem
Choose Report an Issue… from the HUD’s gear menu, or email [email protected] with your macOS version and what happened. ZumCast doesn’t send crash reports by itself: if you turned on diagnostics in Settings › Privacy, use Show diagnostics in Finder and attach them.
